The Garment of Suffering was draped around the Cross on Good Friday in Newcastle West. During Lent people were invited to bring a square of fabric to Church to represent their own suffering or the suffering of a loved one. 528 squares were submitted and members of the parish community sewed the squares together to make the Garment of Suffering. During the Good Friday Celebration of the Lord's Passion they Garment was placed on the Cross to represent that we are united to Christ when we suffer. Previous Garment's of Suffering were made into quilts for an orphanage to symbolise that we can use our suffering to help our fellow brothers and sisters.
