Advent Reflections 2015 - Have you seen the Grand Canyon?

It was May 1982. Five of us were driving from Texas to Long Beach, California, to spend the summer working with a church there. We decided to drive "the northern route" (Interstate 40) so that we could stop by and see the Grand Canyon.

We did exactly that. We drove out to the canyon, spent about half an hour there, then continued our trip to California.

I was there. I have pictures to prove it. But I hardly remember anything about the visit.

A few years ago, some friends of mine went to the Grand Canyon. They hiked down one side, then hiked back up the other side. It took them several days to make the hike.

I have to ask myself: which of us has really seen the Grand Canyon?

It seems to me that some people interact with Jesus in the same way. They take a moment out of their busy lives and give it to him. Just a moment. He is a stop on the way, an interruption to a more important routine. And they never really see him.

Others make knowing Jesus their destination. Their focus is to take the time to find him, to learn about him, and to know him. They are the ones that come to see Jesus as he is.
Jesus said, "Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent."John 17:3)

Take time out of your journey through this world to stop and look for Jesus. Make knowing him your goal; not just knowing about him, but coming to see him as your Saviour.
